Fractals: Bending Chaos Into Reality
I became a fractal-geometry nut in Junior High, programming on an Apple IIc computer in the back of my math class during lectures. Back in those days, a moderate zoom into the Mandelbrot Set could take hours or days to compute, but I kept on exploring new ways to generate fractal images, entering regional computer contests, and more often than not, winning them. I kept this up as a hobby through high school and college, until I met Kai Krause and got involved with MetaCreations Corp., then called HSC Software. I wrote the original KPT Fractal Explorer, and the engine for subsequent versions, always trying to push the boundaries and find unusual spaces no one had explored before.
That said, here is a small sampling of fractal images I've created, using custom algorithms I wrote for MetaCreations' KPT5 FraxPlorer. Click on the thumbnails to view full-size images. The images were rendered in about 2 - 5 seconds apiece, on a vintage PowerMac 8600/300.
Feel free to email me about any of the images you see here; I'm always open to comments and suggestions!
